Angler Table

The angler table aims to highlight its unique shape and features by showing off the unique qualities of the material. 

Very organic and alive on first impression; The Angler table takes inspiration from the deep-sea fish of the same name. Using the hanging light to attract the viewer, encouraging them to have a closer look. Once there, the piece shines. The form of the lamp feels almost alien and sentient. The viewer is then drawn in to look closer at the grain and figure of the material, the bend in the lamp arm, the layers in the material, the lamp shade, and how the lamp is assembled. 

The value in this piece is the complexity of its construction. It doesn't follow a traditional structure or form of a lamp, being a lot more experimental and unique to what is already on the market. It was a real puzzle and technical success making this shape work, standing as a statement piece that will draw anyone in who sees it. 

It uses a modular joinery system that I came up with to create the shapes. They are standardised and modular CNC-machined Y Joins that can be configured in infinite ways. Each dowel is connected to the joints with an internal steel tenon for strength. This piece is a product of the experimentation of this joinery system and what I can create with it. The form is a showcase of what complex techniques and shapes can be used with this system.

Using a series of modular CNC wooden joints, the form of this piece emerges quickly, allowing adaptability and freedom to create almost anything. This piece focuses on the unique qualities of crafted hardwood.
